    Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park

    Stretching 184.5 mi (297 km), the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park once acted as a lifeline for communities and businesses along the Potomac River. Today the canal acts as a recreational destination, offering mule-draw boat trips and trails to hike, bike and jog on. The main entrance, visitor center and coach parking is located in Great Falls, Maryland, just outside Reston.

    Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

    This multi purpose park is set on 2300 acres and combines natural beauty, leisure opportunities and history in a unique environment. This is where John Brown attempted to inspire the local slaves to rebel. A significant site in the Civil War and African-American history, there are a variety of museums and exhibits of interest including Harper House, The John Brown Monument and John Brown's Fort with guided tours available, as well as hiking trails and wonderful scenery.
